Kerensamere Placement Holder
Kerensamere Placement Holder Growing up on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, I spent a great deal of time near, on, and in the water. My favorite thing to do is to walk along the beach, especially the beaches on Assateague Island. It recharges my creative energies and provides inspirations for my work as I ponder the ever-changing environment that surrounds me.
My attraction to glass comes naturally from my love of water. I’ve always been enthralled by the watery, undulating patterns in opaque glass and iridized glass. Their shimmering colors inspired the patterns I made when I marbled paper, one of my first forays into expressive art. The man who would become my husband in 1993, Steve, encouraged me to broaden my talents by applying them to glass. Jennifer Daggs - Artist/Owner of Kerensamere

Glass is such an incredible medium – made from heated sand, it’s never truly a solid. If you gaze into the windows of an older home, you can see the ripples in the ancient panes. It looks like it’s still moving – like the surface of a river being tickled by a barely perceptible breeze. Today, I approach cutting glass much like I cut paper for paper sculptures I used to make – with gleeful abandon! I make many of my pieces, like my goldfish, without a pattern. I just start cutting away the parts that don’t look like a fish.

While on summer break from Lebanon Valley College (PA), I worked in a store in Ocean City, MD called The Crystal Underground. That summer, I learned to design and assemble simple jewelry. Later, I learned how to create stained glass panels using the copper foil method. After making a few simple projects, I fashioned a pendant for myself with some scrap glass. Every time I wore it, I received many compliments, even from people I didn’t know – complete strangers, shoppers in hardware stores, passers-by. I created new designs and gave them as gifts to friends and family. I also began crafting original glass pieces such as picture frames, mobiles, sun catchers, and candleholders.

On November 9, 2001, my world changed like I never could have imagined when I gave birth to my beautiful daughter, Jillian. As Steve and I watched, with wonderment, this littlest of miracles, we knew daycare was simply not an option for us. We decided I would stay at home with our daughter, and I would begin a career that had long lived in my dreams – to be an artist and entrepreneur. This was my opportunity to create things of beauty on a much larger scale. My husband – my best friend and most ardent supporter – is my muse, although my daughter has begun to challenge him for that role.

I live in New Cumberland, PA, and am a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, participating at several levels. My hobbies include walking the beach; canoeing; caving; camping; attending renaissance faires attired in costumes Steve has designed; reading books (my favorite author is Terry Pratchett); watching movies (my favorite is The Lord of the Rings); listening to a variety of contemporary rock, folk, alternative country, rhythm & blues, world beat, and jazz music; and gardening.

  Sincerely Yours,
